The Morena Business Association is an organization of community business people who meet once a month to identify and discuss issues of common concern, to find and implement solutions to local problems, to promote the community through a variety of methods, and to raise public awareness of the Morena business area. We host special events and training workshops, and we plan to publish and distribute a Morena Business Directory and Map. We are also plannning a Morena Referral List and Referral Network, and we host business mixers for Morena business owners to meet each other and learn about business opportunities. We plan to seek a banner designation from the City Council, to hang banners on the light poles in our community.
Our goals are to increase foot traffic to local businesses, to help business owners with code compliance, to reduce criminal activity (panhandling, public urination, graffiti, public sleeping, etc.), to promote business in the Morena area, to provide regulatory support and relief, and to increase property values. As a recognized community Association, we have a clearer voice to City, State, and Federal government, and we can more easily secure outside funding to leverage area reinvestment.
The MBA newsletter and Web site are authorized by the Morena Business Association. They are written, published, and distributed by MBA members.
The first goal of the MBA newsletter and Web site is to inform business owners, landlords in the Morena area, and other interested or involved parties, of local issues, situations, and activities affecting our area. The second goal is to promote our business community.
Our news articles include subjects and topics discussed at Morena Business Association meetings and other items of interest to our business community.
Any interested party can join the Morena Business Association. If you work or live in the Morena area, or if you work with Morena area businesses, you may join the MBA. We meet at Baci Ristorante Italiano at 2 pm on the third Tuesday of each month. There are no dues.
The Morena area receives an $8,500 block grant from the city once a year. Approximately half of this money is used to water the trees and plants on Morena Boulevard. The rest of the money is used for printing and mailing costs. Meeting space for our monthly meetings, committee meeting space, our Web site, our newsletter, and our legal services have been provided by our membership.
The Morena Business Association is a 501 (c) 6 non-profit corporation.
